18 Months DA Freeze Arrears
Central Government Employees and Pensioners received a fixed Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) rate of 17% from January 2020 to June 2021. The Government of India has ceased the additional DA and DR for this period, with plans to reinstate the terminated installments with cumulative rates in July 2021, as outlined in the office memorandum by the Department of Expenditure. Consequently, the next expected increase in DA and DR will occur in July 2021. Additionally, as per the Finmin Order, there will be no payment of DA and DR arrears for the three installments from January 1, 2020, to June 30, 2021. The concept of ‘Freezing DA’ involves a temporary suspension in the increment of additional DA provided to Central Government employees and pensioners biannually, which has been temporarily halted for 18 months, spanning from January 1, 2020, to June 30, 2021.
